9 Scenic LA Hiking Trails That Feel Like a Movie Set — Solo-Tested with Just One Waterproof Backpack

As a freelancer who works remotely and finds calm in the outdoors, I often swap my desk for trail views. Living light and packing smart is key — and this time, I took just my 20L waterproof backpack through nine unforgettable hikes around Los Angeles. From Hollywood hills to hidden coastal towers, here’s where I went — and why I’d go again.

Hiker enjoying the skyline view from Griffith Park, Los Angeles

📍1. Griffith Park Trails | For beginners and golden-hour lovers

2.5 miles to panoramic views of the Griffith Observatory + Hollywood Sign. Sunset feels like a scene straight out of La La Land.

📍2. Cave of Munits | For cave crawlers

2.7 miles with light scrambling. One of LA’s best offbeat spots with canyon views and photo-worthy cave entrances.

Small daypack tip: keep hands free — I was glad my lightweight hiking bag clipped snugly.

📍3. Palos Verdes Loop Trail | Ocean views, zero effort

20-minute round trip to a dreamy lighthouse and cliffside path. A true lazy hiker's win.

📍4. Mount Rubidoux | Castle vibes without the hike

Just 3.5 miles up to a cross + old-world architecture. Feels like a scene from a fantasy RPG, and very Instagrammable.

📍5. Chino Hills State Park | For flower-chasers

Go in Feb–March: oceans of mustard blooms and rainbow wildflowers. Short trails + magical color palette.

📍6. Antelope Valley | For golden poppy sunsets

Flat walk but visually unmatched. Orange carpets of flowers that turn every shot into a phone wallpaper.

📍7. Runyon Canyon | For people-watching + celeb spotting

You’ll see dogs, runners, and maybe a Netflix actor. Easy access + skyline photo ops. Not peaceful, but fun.

📍8. Big Pine Lakes | For the committed

3-hour drive, 15-mile hike, snow-capped mountains, blue-glass lakes. Worth every step.

📍9. Victoria Beach | Hidden castle by the sea

A stone tower tucked against the coast. Looks like a fairytale and photographs like one too.
