The Strangest Museum in Stuttgart — Perfect for a Short Weekend Escape
Sometimes the best travel stories start with a strange recommendation.
I had a long week at work and a short window to leave town. So I booked a quiet hotel in Stuttgart, Germany — no big plans, just a chance to reset.
That’s when a local friend said, “You have to visit the pig museum.”
I thought he was joking.
🐷 Schweinemuseum — More Than a Gimmick
Tucked inside a former slaughterhouse painted pastel green, Stuttgart’s Schweinemuseum holds over 50,000 pig-related items: figurines, history displays, plush toys, scientific diagrams. It’s the kind of place that makes you laugh, pause, and weirdly… stay longer than expected.
The museum has 27 themed rooms. Some are playful (cartoons, pop culture pigs), some educational (pig anatomy, farming), and others just flat-out strange. And that’s what I loved. There was no pressure to “learn” — only to explore.
🎒 A Backpack That Handles Spontaneity
I hadn’t planned to buy anything, but of course, I left with pig postcards, a jar of mustard, and a fridge magnet. Good thing I packed my expandable backpack for travel — specifically a 20L model that could unzip just enough to fit the extras without feeling bulky. No extra bags needed for the tram ride back.
That’s what I love about expandable designs: compact when you’re just walking light, roomy when your curiosity (or appetite) gets the better of you.

🧳 What I Took with Me (Besides a Magnet)
I came for quiet time and found pigs in costumes. I left with stories I wasn’t expecting, and a new appreciation for strange, small museums that don’t try too hard.
If you’re planning a short break or a random weekend away, don’t underestimate the joy of doing something completely unplanned.
